Odontoplasty is a central part of equine dentistry, yet it carries an inherent risk: heat generation and potential thermal injury to dental tissues. Watercooling is widely used in human dentistry to reduce this risk, but its value, limitations, and practical application in horses remain largely unexplored. In this webinar, we will examine what is known—and not known—about heat build-up during equine odontoplasty, discuss the theoretical and practical role of watercooling, and consider both its potential benefits and its possible drawbacks. The aim is not to advocate, but to understand: can watercooling help us perform odontoplasty more safely, and at what cost or compromise?
